The Painting of "Marsh Madness 2"
/The Painting of “Marsh Madness 2”
In this video, I am painting an acrylic abstract painting on a 22x30 sheet of Fabriano Artistico (300 lb) that has been gessoed. This painting, like many I have done recently is an abstract landscape painting. It is not meant to portray a specific place or a specific landscape, but rather the colors and feelings I have of a place - which is the coastal marshes of South Carolina. This painting is intentionally vague and leaves the viewer to make their own determination.
I have used my 5-Step Abstract Painting Process which is outlined in the Downloadable PDF available below. For your copy, simply click the button:
I am using an analogous color combination for this painting of yellow-green, green, blue-green and blue. Blue forms the dominant color, blue-green is my non-dominant color and green and yellow-green are my accent colors. The colors used in this painting are all Golden Heavy Body Acrylics:
Anthraquinone Blue (to which I have added some Mars Black to tone down the intensity)
Cerulean Blue Deep
Manganese Blue Hue
Jenkins Green
Teal
Viridian Green Hue
Cobalt Turquoise
Benz Yellow
Naples Yellow
Titanium White
It’s a very simple color palette and I am using most of the colors straight from the jar (which I almost never do) with the addition of titanium white to lighten the value. The color mixing was mostly to develop the yellow-green. I am trying for a loose, fresh approach with visible brush strokes and no overworking. I move quickly across the surface without lingering anywhere for very long. If you like this approach to abstract painting, please join me for a workshop this year - my upcoming workshops are shown below.
